It is a MOS (Metal Oxide Semiconductor) sensor. Press and hold the test button for five seconds. Green – The green light means that the smoke detector is powered ON and the device is operational. When smoke enters the chamber, light scatters and is picked up by the photosensitive cell, causing the alarm to sound. The unit may chirp or alarm for a few seconds before going silent. That amount of time is extended each time a sensor detects fresh movement, so it is possible for a motion detector light to stay on for much longer than 20 minutes at a time.
